We have had some unfortunate news from the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway (EVR). They report that the steam locomotive that was due to haul the Carnival Express on Sunday has broken down and won’t be in operation this weekend. They will be operating a different train set pulled by one of their heritage diesel locomotives.
It’s disappointing that there won’t be a steam engine powering the Carnival Express this year, but the heritage coaches and the wonderful scenery of the Ecclesbourne Valley at hay-making time will be the same, as will be the feeling of stepping back in time with manned crossings, friendly staff and creaking carriages. It will still be a glorious way to end the weekend.
